ABOUT

Jelle Korevaar: The power of movement and connection

Jelle Korevaar was born in 1989 in the city of Rotterdam and currently lives and works near Dordrecht, the Netherlands. In 2014, he graduated from the Artez art academy in Arnhem, laying the foundation for his career as an artist. Since then, Korevaar has specialised in creating complex, moving installations that are not only a visual spectacle, but also embody his profound reflections on the world around us.

From frustration to connection

Korevaar's first seven works reflect his frustrations with a society that, in his view, has lost faith in leaders and systems. This anger provided a powerful outlet, but Korevaar soon discovered that it offered little space for open and equal dialogues. After a period of introspection and reflection, his attention shifted to the divine, which he finds mainly in nature and in human connection. Today, this divine aspect forms the core of his work and drives his search for meaning and purpose.

A unique approach in the arts field

Korevaar moves through the art field with his kinetic artworks in a unique way. Everything in his work has a purpose: from the movements of his installations to the choice of materials and the interaction with visitors. Moreover, Korevaar values social collaboration during the making process, shifting the focus from personal emotions to broader social mechanisms.

Sustainability and inspiration

Sustainability plays a central role in Korevaar's practice. His fascination with the underwater world is evident in his current work, in which he combines natural forms with sustainable and circular production methods. By using waste materials, he aims not only to discover beauty in what is often thrown away, but also to inspire others to see waste as a source of possibilities. Korevaar integrates these materials into his work and emphasises their recyclability, bringing together art and social commitment in a unique way.

Movement and meaning

The kinetic elements of Korevaar's installations bring a sense of life and movement to the spaces in which they are placed. Whereas his earlier works were mostly introspective, his recent creations increasingly involve the environment and the public. His artworks invite physical interaction, making them not only visual objects but also social connectors. They encourage reflection on the concept of symbiosis, both in nature and in the social world, and provide a platform for connection and dialogue.
